General Notes: Husband - William Rockliff
William Rockliff served as a wheeler (wheelwright) in the army and was at Waterloo in Lt A Dickson's G Troop of Horse Artillery. His discharge record from the Royal Regiment of Horse Artillery shows him as having enlisted on 30 March 1797 at the age of 22. He is attributed with service of 23 years and 31 days to the date of his discharge on 31 January 1820 (don't ask me how this was calculated!), but 2 years was added to his service record to make it 25-31 on account of Waterloo for pension purposes. His general conduct as a soldier was stated as "Good". The discharge record also described him (to prevent any improper use being made of it!) - about 45 years of age, 5 ft 81/2 inches tall, dark hair, brown eyes, brown complexion. There is also a postscript to the discharge seemingly in the same hand throughout which states"Received Marching Money to Carry Me to Sheffield being 171 Miles" [6 shillings is the listed amount] and "do [presumably ditto] to his wife and four children to Sheffield being 171 Miles the Sum of " [£3-10shillings and fourpence halfpenny is then listed with the total given of £4-4shillings and fourpence halfpenny]. This is then signed by William Rockliff.Signed: Clive Palmer
