Succeeded his father at Synedale[Bill Torr]James Whitwell Torre only spent a few years here from 1836 to 1843-renting out Snydale Hall to tenants after this time. He died in London 1888 and seems to have had no surviving male heir, the estate going to John James T. the son of his brother John Alexander T. who spent a good deal of time in New Zealand. John James T. lived here for a couple of years around 1898 and I believe he may have been responsible for the Gatekeeper's Lodge and the Stable where my dad now lives.[Martyn]
