General Notes: Husband - Robert Edward Turr

Notes Submitted by daughter Olive (c1974).Robert Turr came from Yorkshire, England in 1888 at the age of ten years, to the Kinbrae District. His Dad, Gervas Turr Sr. homesteaded in the Clumber District in 1901. Robert took a homestead three miles south of Bredenbury where he worked the land with oxen and a pony in the lead. He was a grain farmer and had a good herd of Shorthorn cattle. He exhibited the Grand Champion Bull at Calgary in 1916. He sold this animal for $2000 which would be equal to $20,000 in relation to the present Calgary prices of 1974. He also ran a large poultry business for many years. His first home was built of logs and the stable was built with wooden blocks with mud. In January 1908 Robert married Leah Leppington. They had one daughter Olive who married William Burdett in 1934. Olive and Bill reside in Fort Macleod, Alberta and have a son Kenneth, daughter in law Jerry and a daughter Fern (Mrs. Bob Zutterman) and nine grandchildren. Ken lives in Monarch, Alberta and Fern in Fort MacLeod.Mr. and Mrs. Turr sold the farm and spent their later years in Victoria, BC. Mr Turr had been a dedicated worker in the Methodist Church and later in the United Church.
