The Leppington Family History (c1974)Amos Leppington was born on January 31, 1899 and was just three years of age when his family returned to Ontario. But, in March of 1918 the call of the west brought him back to this area (Bredenbury). He farmed with his brother Lew for a few years until on October 17, 1923 he married Ellen Ritchie daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ritchie, one of the very early comers to these parts. They worked and lived at various places until they bought the SE 1/4 Sect. 9-23-1 W2nd (known as the Bill Weir farm) in 1939. That farm became a hive of activity, Amos had general purpose show horses which he showed and won prizes at Altwater, Saltcoats, Churchbridge and Yorkton Fairs, he also had race horses which he entered in the races at Russell and Saltcoats. In later years he went in for purebred pigs and won championships (4 at one fair) at Saltcoats, Yorkton, Brandon and Regina. Some of the pigs raised on his farm won prizes at the Toronto Royal Fair.As a pastime hobby Amos had wolfhounds (acc. to the photos, these dogs were actually lurchers; wolfhound/greyhound crosses - JDB) and Ellen and he had many a merry trip after the coyotes. His best dog in the 1923-24 season brought down 65 coyotes. In 1963 Mr. and Mrs. Leppington decided they had worked long enough so they bought a house in town and retired from farming but not from work for thay have one of the best gardens in town, the first new potatoes, the first ripe tomatoes. They left the farm in the very capable hands of their son Charles who carries on the tradition of his father in the livestock. Charles and his wife Jean (Devins) have two children, Dwight and Shelley. Charles has two brothers, John and Elmer.John and his wife Betty (May) have two daughters, Maylene and Mardell and a son John. They live in Manitoba.Elmer and his wife Muriel (Scott) and family of Mark and twins Linda and Lois live in Abbotsford, BC.Mr. and Mrs. Amos Leppington celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct 17, 1973.

Leppington Family HistoryContribution By Ileen Waterhouse nee Leppington (c1974)I am the youngest and only living child of Charlie and Isabel Leppington. My grandparents came from England on a sailing ship and were married on the boat. They settled in Ontario and raised a family of ten. My father came west to Manitoba as a young man, there he met my mother and they were married in 1895. They farmed there, moving to the Saltcoats area in 1905. They lived in Section 4, 2 miles north of Perley School. In 1911 my dad bought Section 6, they farmed there until their death. My dad had a herd of 100 registered cattle. There were five of us; Cyril who farmed the home place, later moving to Saltcoats; Edith married Charles Air; Harry died at 16; Millie entered nursing in Alberta, later moving to Victoria in British Columbia.I married George Waterhouse, we farmed in the Hillerton District, later moving to Victoria in 1956.Contribution By Melvin Leppington Jr. (c1974)Charlie was a brother of Henry. Charlie and Mrs. Leppington lived in the Perley District for many years, first on Section 4, north of the school, then on section 6, presently owned by Leonard Tatton. In their family were Cyril, Edith, Harry, Millie and Isabel.Cyril stayed on the farm till after the Second World War. Edith married C. Air and lived in Boakeview; Harry died when he was about 16; Millie became a nurse and moved away to BC. Isobel married George Waterhouse and moved away.Mr and Mrs. Leppington were devoted to the farm and when they were passed away they were buried there.
