Notes: Marriage (Mary Ada Mollett):
\b Pontefract & Castleford Express Saturday Nov 10, 1888.Fashionable Marriage at Birkin\b0 There was an unusual amount of bustle and animation in the neighbourhood of Beal and Birkin on Wednesday morning consequent of the joining of wedlock of a young lady and gentleman from two of the most well-known and highly-respected families in the district. This interesting event took place at Birkin Church, a noble sanctuary, which, after weathering the storms of the Reformation and subsequent centuries, today remains a monument of Norman architecture, equally remarkable for it's stability as for the numerous relics of the sculptor's art with which it abounds. Before the church doors opened interested visitors sauntered about the churchyard in a bracing, nay,-piercing November wind and there was soon a goodly gathering of parishioners and others. The first arrivals in church of the party were Mr William Poskitt (son of Mr J. Poskitt J.P. of Kellington), the bridegroom, with whom were Mr John Tetlow of Cleckheaton and Mr J.T. Mollett, the groomsman. The wedding party soon began to increase, amongst those seated within the choir being Mr & Mrs Mollett, Mr & Mrs William Mollett, Mr & Mrs B. Mollett, Miss H.M. Poskitt and Miss G. Poskitt (sisters of the bridegroom), Mr & Mrs Oxley, Mr & Mrs T. Kitson, Mrs Storey, Mrs Bailey, Messrs H. & A. Mollett & C. The last to arrive were the bridal party, the bride, Miss Ada Mary Mollett, leaning on the arm of her father Mr Thomas Mollett of Birkin and accompanied by the bridesmaids, Miss Phillips and Miss E. Poskitt (sister of the bridegroom). The bride wore a rich pale cream silk dress with train, her head being adorned with a bridal wreath, from which gracefully hung a fall of Brussels netting. The bridesmaids were also attired in dresses of light cream material trimmed with swansdown, and hats to match, the whole bearing beautiful bouquets. The bride was given away by her father and the service was closely followed by all the congregation. At the close, the Rector, (the Rev. Canon Barnes-Lawrence) who conducted the entire service, offered a few remarks to the happy pair, the congregation all standing. He said it was his earnest desire that the blessing of God might rest upon them both. He had known both of them for a large portion of their lives and it was a very happy thought that in those years that he had known them, he had known nothing but what was good, and happy and pleasant. Now he had no doubt that if they would seek God with all their hearts and minds, they would have his blessing through life, till at last they heard that happy invitation "Well done, good and faithful servant" After attesting the registers the party repaired to Mr T. Mollett's. Two coaches and pairs of Grays (from Mr C.W. Saul's of Knottingley) provided the powers of locomotion. The wedding breakfast, owing to the absence of a room of sufficient dimensions in the house, was laid in the granary adjoining. This, by the aid of curtains, mottoes and evergreens and the sumptuously laid banquet, was made to look exceedingly comfortable and inviting. The skilled services of Mrs Senior of the School of Cookery, Wakefield, had been engaged, and with the aid of two professional waiters, who were with her, the table had been laid in such a manner as it would have been difficult to excel. The following was the menu :- Boned turkey, roast turkey, roast fowls, ham and tongue, pigeon pie, pheasants, partridges, lobster salads :-sweets, wine, jellies, lemon jellies, Swiss creams, cabinet creams, trifles, pastry, dessert. After breakfast the happy pair left for London, where they will spend the honeymoon. The presents were very numerous, varied and valuable.Pontefract & Castleford Express Saturday November 10th, 1888MarriagePoskitt - Mollett. On the 7th Instant at St. Mary's Church, Birkin by the Rev Canon Barnes-Lawrence, William, second son of John Poskitt Esq. J.P. of Kellington to Mary Ada, eldest daughter of Thomas Mollett Esq., Birkin.[P.S.S.]

Notes: Marriage (Mary Ann Molyneux):
The marriage was witnessed by her half brother John William Ashurst, an indicator that Mary Ann is the daur of Elizabeth Alice Ashurst nee Molyneux? I think she made up the name of her father on the marriage cert., a common occurrence with Illegitimates.
