He also completed three sessions at London Hospital, including midwifery and diseases of Women and Children. 1869 he becomes a Licentiate of both the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh. He took the Primary examination for Apothecary License at the Society of Apothecaries, London, on 13 May 1869, and took the Final examination the next week. His Society of Apothecaries records indicate that he was the son of Mary Kelsey, with no birth date or baptism supplied, apprenticed to various persons for 5 years from 14 Oct 1859.
