Notes: Marriage

Extract from the Assinaboian Newspaper.ORANGE BLOSSOMSOn the afternoon of the 25th ult. at the home of Mr.. E.G.Daniels, 12th Street, Brandon was the scene of a very pretty wedding, when his daughter, Miss Dora A. Daniels was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Mr. Robert Brears of Brandon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brears, Clumber, Assa. A large number of friends of the contracting parties were present to witness the pleasing event. The nuptial knot was securely tied by the Rev. Mr. Darrell, assistant pastor of the Methodist church.Miss Bessie Daniels, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid while Mr. R. Clifton Cleaver supported the groom. The bride looked charming attired in a very pretty dress of dainty white muslin, trimmed with Valenciennes lace and watered silk ribbons. Above the veil was a delicate wreath of white carnations, chrysanthemums and smilax. Dainty refreshments were served in the afternoon. The wedding presents were numerous, pretty and costly, testifying the popularity of the young couple among their large circle of friends. Both bride and groom were very highly respected in Brandon and if congratulations and good wishes promote happiness then most assuredly their pathway through life will be strewn with roses. In the evening the newly wedded pair left on the express for the east.Mr. and Mrs. Brears arrived here on Saturday evening last. and intend taking up their residence at Clumber for a time. The ASSINABOAIN unites with Mr. Brears many friends in this vicinity in extending to the young couple a hearty welcome and sincere wishes for life long happiness, joy and prosperity.

General Notes: Husband - Rowland Brears

Around and before 1930, Mary Burgess remembers distinctly her father Rowland receiving letters from Robert Albert Brears in Saskatchewan, asking him to move to Saskatchewan along with his wife and 2 girls. These letters were the cause of some arguments in the household as Rowland's parents in law, who owned and also lived in the same house as they didn't want him to leave, neither did Rowland's parents. Both families pressured Rowland to stay in UK. As Rowland was also running his own successful business, he agreed to stay.[JDB]Extract from 1908 Doncaster Gazette Newspaper:CARCROFTSUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY - On Sunday, the Wesleyan Sunday School held its anniversary, when services were conducted by the Rev. T. Ross, of Doncaster. Mr. R. Brears was at the organ accompanied by Messrs. D. and T. Knowles. Messrs Middleton and Beaumont assisted the choir. On Thursday the children had a tea provided, after which they flocked to a field kindly lent by Mr. Bulmer, where they spent an enjoyable afternoon.
